Mr. Deepak Amin is the key promoter of Light Microfinance. He co-founded Covelix, Inc, a US and India based international software consulting company, providing services to global enterprise technology companies. Covelix Inc was later acquired by Emtec Inc, a publicly traded software services multinational company based in the US. Earlier, he had founded vJungle, an online software services company, later acquired by Streamserve (now part of OpenText Corp). He has also worked at Microsoft, USA for number of years and led the original Internet Explorer browser team and was also lead engineer for Microsoft Windows Networking. An active angel investor in technology startup companies, Deepak has been a limited partner in venture capital funds based in the US and India.Putting his immense experience with technology to worthy effect, Deepak serves on the Technology Advisory Council of Grameen Foundation for Microfinance, USA, working to uplift the underprivileged by providing access to finance and technology. He has also served on the Advisory Board of National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (Department of Science and Technology, Government of India), to promote technology entrepreneurship and innovation in India.
Deepak is currently an Independent Director on the board of SBI Life Insurance Ltd, India’s second largest and publicly traded life insurance company. He also served as an Independent Director on the Board of State Bank of India (SBIN), a Fortune 500 company, India’s largest bank and a top 50 bank in the world. As Director, he was Chairman of the IT Strategy Committee and Member of the Audit Committee, Risk Management Committee, Special Committee for Monitoring Large Value Frauds, Corporate Social Responsibility Committee, Remuneration Committee and Stakeholders Committee of the Board.
Deepak did his Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and Master of Science in Computer Science from University of Rhode Island.
Mr. Kaushik Amin brings with him 26 years of invaluable experience of international finance. Kaushik is the founder of SilverRange Financial Partners, a merchant bank located in New York City which owns the 115,000 barrels per day Oil Refinery in Come-by-Chance, Newfoundland, Canada. Earlier, he headed Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities for the Americas at UBS Investment Bank. He was CEO of RBS Sempra Commodities, a commodities trading firm with an approximate headcount of 1000, $3.5 Billion in equity capital and $700 million to $1 Billion in annual EBITDA. He gained significant financial experience as a senior executive at Lehman Brothers, where among other roles, he was the Head of Lehman’s Global Rates, Foreign Exchange, Emerging Markets, Commodities and Proprietary trading businesses. He has also taught as Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Michigan’s School of Business Administration.
Kaushik is a PhD in Finance from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York and completed his B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering from the IIT, Bombay.
Ms. Vijayalakshmi Das is the Managing Director and Promoter Director of Ananya Finance for Inclusive Growth (P) Limited. Ananya an NBFC, provides loans to institutions which provide financial services to low income households in 17 states. Currently, she is also holding the position of CEO of Friends of Women’s World Banking, India. She had served as the CEO of FWWB from 1989 to 2010. She has served as member of various policy advisory groups (CGAP) and currently serves in the Board of Indian School of Microfinance for Women, Invest India Micro Pension Services, Access Development Services and some of the leading MFIs of India.
Mr. Sudhin Choksey, the Managing Director of GRUH, is a fellow member of theInstitute of Chartered Accountants of India. He was appointed as the CEO of the company in 1998 and made the Managing Director in 2000. He has been on the Board of GRUH since May 1996. He brings immense experience in handling of functional areas of finance, commercial and general management, both international and domestic. He currently serves as Director on the Boards of Deepak Nitrite Ltd, Gujarat Ambuja Exports Ltd, Credila Financials Services Private Ltd, Hunnar Shaala Foundation for Building Technology and Innovations and Saath Livelihood Services. He is also a member of the Stakeholders Relationship Committee and Corporate Social Responsibility Committee at GRUH.
Mr.Anuj has over 20 years of special situations, private equity, investment banking and operating experience and is currently responsible for the Structured Credits Group of Kotak Mahindra Bank. Before this, he has worked with ING Vysya Bank for structured Credits Group and he was a Partner with Axis Private Equity, a US$150 million fund, where he led investments in infrastructure-related companies. Prior to that, he was with Sabre Capital, where he led several infrastructure investments from the US$100 million Sabre Abraaj Private Equity fund and was part of Sabre Capital’s core team for the control investment inCenturion Bank. Earlier, he set up and headed Merrill Lynch’s business for principal investments in distressed assets in India.
Mr. Anuj Kumar is an alumni of Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and qualified Chartered Accountant.
Mr. Pratul Shroff serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of eInfochips Limited. Mr. Shroff worked for 9 years at Intel and Daisy Systems. At Intel, he was one of the designers of the 80186 chip, fountainhead of the PC era. He was one of the founders of Daisy. He founded eInfochips in 1995. He has formidable definition, vision and architecture skills. He serves as Director of eInfochips Limited. He serves as Director of E-Infochips Bangalore Limited. He holds a BS in Electronics Engineering from BITS in 1976, and a MS in Computer Engineering from Cornell in 1977.
Mr. Pratul is also a Founding Trustee of Visamo Kids, which aims to empower underprivileged children through free education and holistic personality development in order to give them the opportunity to become change agents.
Mr. Rakesh Kumar is part of founding team at Light Microfinance. He has played a key role in building the initial team, setting the field operation and support functions in the company. He brings with him invaluable field experience of setting up microfinance operations from the ground up and scaling it to multiple states. He has extensive knowledge of building, coordinating and leading teams, installing systems and setting complete work processes and procedures in a large successful microfinance organization. Before joining Light Microfinance, Rakesh worked with SKS Microfinance from the company’s early days and played a key part in its rapid growth by launching and expanding operations in seven states across North India creating a member base of over 150,000 and a robust portfolio of over INR 100 crores ($25MM). Prior to SKS, Rakesh was engaged in market development for an educational institute and publication house.
Rakesh received his Masters degree in Rural Management from Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA).
Mr. Aviral Saini is one of the founding members and has played key role in shaping the culture of the company apart from his contribution in functional areas. He brings strong experience of developing strategic and financial roadmaps for businesses, having successfully done it for an industrial goods manufacturer in Canada and an early state education company in India. Before joining Light Microfinance, he was a strategy consultant at IBM and was instrumental in developing market insights and financial models for new business opportunities with various multinational corporations. Prior to that, he worked with leading financial services firms, including the Citadel Investment Group, advising them on solutions to efficiently scale up operations by leveraging technology. He also brings experience in key areas such as knowledge management, risk management, reporting and data integrity.
Aviral has an MBA from Schulich School of Business and has a Bachelor of Technology in Electronics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
